Sue Marsden Art at the Storey Lancaster with King St Arts CIC

I have been working on new paintings based on the sounds of our landscape. The whispers of a forest, the splash of a moorland brook the sound of free running water. I’ll be taking along a selection of prints and cards too.

Blackburn Artists Exhibitions

After picking up my work from the Blackburn Artists exhibition at The Garstang Art Centre https://garstangartssociety.org.uk I headed off to Queen Street Mill with a different collection of work to where Blackburn Artists now have an exhibition over the Summer months in the cafe area. The grade 1 mill is well worth a visit as the last surviving 19th century steam powered weaving mill in the world. https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/museums/queen-street-mill-textile-museum/

Lapis

Latin for ‘checkpoint, stone, milestone,  waymark’

For this project I’m taking the idea of ‘Waymark’ – marking our way, something solidly lying there waiting to be discovered.

Often these gems are hidden in plain sight. Abstract art in the landscape, texture and colours created by nature.

Open surfaces inviting exploration, changing with the elements, weathered by time

How many journeys, walks and trips have we been looking, but not seeing these stones, way markers and their abstract art. Here are some examples my camera and I discovered … landscape photography looking for fine art.

These prints and cards are on show and for sale at the Kings Street Studios, Art Fair at the Storey, Main Gallery, Lancaster UK (until Dec 19th 2022)

Corners of the street where I live

Staying local throughout Lockdown meant lots of retracing footsteps from the day before and big decisions such as “do I turn left or right outside the gate?” A small village with one main street, you could be forgiven for thinking that the same walk day after day would be boring!

I decided to revisit an idea for a project and thought that it suited the climate of the pandemic. ‘Corners of the street where I live’ The idea behind this was simple – to look for lots of corners on my daily walk. Our worlds had got smaller as travel was restricted so the idea of going in and focussing on the small details appealed. It actually opened the door into another world as there were corners wherever I looked.

The final images were presented locked into in a grid, conformed and regulated and displaying their own corners.
